Ernie hears the Farmer say he wishes he had time to get his pumpkins to market.
A calf gets stuck in the rafters of the barn. (Now, you know it's a silly book. How's a cow going to get into the rafters?). Duck to the rescue--but the rescue ends with the calf rescuing Ernie who can't quite get up on the beam.
Next Duck sees that the chickens need a break from caring for the chicks...
Duck tries to be a scarecrow stand-in, he tries to help Emily, a little human on the farm, not be afraid of the dark...but each rescue does not turn out for Duck.
Duck sees that Ernie, Emily's brother, needs another player for his soccer team...
I like this book even though I did not learn anything about real ducks. I did learn that people who make books use all different animals to tell their stories, not just cats. And that those stories are sometimes just as foolish as some of the cat books we have read. I am glad Daddy Duck--I mean Daddy Tim brought it home. I give this book three treats...the other two might have been nibbled at while we were reading...
No mousie recon to report. But Daddy Tim has been hopping up to run outside and throw sticks at squirrels which he says are "eating the house." Unless I am in his lap, I think it's funny to watch him jump up and run outside and try to hit the gutter the squirrel is chewing on instead of the squirrel...it's also funny when he comes in grumbling about the squirrels. If he would just let me and Bubble patrol the yard, WE could keep the squirrels away. |
