I think Daddy Tim should have made Bubble read and review this one because she's the one who never wants to come in. The Daddies always have to "fly her" inside, pick her up and zoom her through the air (and sometimes she gets away while they are opening the door; that can get funny when it happens a bunch of times in a row). |
When just warm milk doesn't work, she gives him tuna too. He runs away again. The next day she adds a toy mouse, and Pete still runs away. She adds a soft rug...then an arm chair...then she builds him a fireplace on the porch. He still runs away. OK, lady...the cat's obviously not interested in your company. He's probably scared of your hair. |
She finally hangs curtains and leaves him knitting needles with which he knits himself a scarf. Somewhere he picks up clothes...and in the end; when she asks him to come inside one more time, he tells her she should come inside (his cozy partially outdoors room she's made for him on the porch). And she does. This says it was based on a true story. |
But as you can see (aside from the disturbing hair), the illustrations are interestingly different. They made me think of "Kitten's Autumn" by Eugenie Fernandes which we read a long time ago...I want to read THAT again.
Daddy Tim says the illustrations probably took a long time and a lot of work. And I do think Shivery Pete is a very handsome guy. I give this book two and a half treats. Pete can have the other two and a half only if he takes off the clothes and glasses.
Miss Bubble has been giving ALL the mousies a hard time lately. I think she is on to their shenanigans! Sometimes she will be chewing on Long Green Bunny's head and she will turn and whack a Sherbet Mouse across the room. Or while she's kicking Feather Ball with her back legs, she'll be gnawing on Blue Fluffy Ball. Good Job Miss Bubble! I think she is finally worthy to be my lieutenant in the secret war against the mousies! |
