We love Millie!
Seems she is a milk cow with a strange obsession. She waits each day after milking for the mail. But she doesn't just wait for the mail man...she hides and lurks waiting for the mailman to arrive with the mail...
No reason is given as to why she likes to do this...but it gives the mailman nightmares and makes Millie's farmer angry (because all her mail comes broken).
So the mailman decides that maybe Millie has just never gotten a package of her own. And he makes her a nice gift, but when he tries to deliver it; Millie jumps out of the trough (wearing goggles--second favorite picture in the book) and he rides away on his bike explaining over his shoulder that the package is for her. Millie stops. The package goes sailing; and the farmer who was following on the tractor runs it over...Millie is so shocked her legs give out and she flattens the Mailman's bike.
NOW how will he deliver the mail? You'll have to read it to discover the solution...but it's also a favorite picture in the book. I can't wait to read Millie's other adventures! She's fab, but the books are worth it just for the chickens. Try it, you'll like it!
I just discovered that she is actually a translated cow! And her real name is Lieslotte! Now that is a rare animal (no, not a mailman-loving cow...a translated book that doesn't feel, sound or look translated) You'll love Millie & so will your young listeners no matter what her name is.
