So, yes a couple of these were on my fiction writers list. Obviously, I don't read a lot of Big Boy books...and some that I read just don't make the grade for a top 10 list. (I've read James Patterson...and he only qualifies as a top 10 marketer, though I guess he'd be on the thriller list if he could write). Also, I have, in my reading career, dropped two who would have made this list due to their personal views or actions. I can't call Piers Anthony a favorite author because he looks down on women. He disavows it, but one has only to read a Xanth novel or two to see it's true. How many times does an author have to describe a female character as having a "pretty little head" and a huge endowment before you realize they only see women as objects? And, of course, there is the reprehensible and unforgivable Orson Scott Card whose views on LGBT rights should keep anyone from supporting him. (Sister Orson must have some big-old gay skeletons in his closet to be so vocally opposed to LGBT freedoms). Back to the fine people who actually DO make my top 10 list: One, sadly, doesn't write any more (Mitchell). A couple are slowing down (Tepper and Pratchett). I have actually interviewed two of these people for magazine articles! (Or you could say three, because Corey is actually two people) The other interviewee was Finlay. If I ever had conversations face to face with Gaiman or Tepper, I would be a babbling idiot...and If I had one with Adams, I'd be a medium (instead of a large--wakka wakka!) I appreciate new ideas about what to read next. I have only read 2 Adams and Haldeman and not much of H. Not Sci Fi but I have been reading through Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware novels and enjoy them. any suggestions about some good mystery stuff. I have read all of Hillerman, Barr, Peretsky, Michael Connelly and some Patterson.

Uncle Nate! Tepper is Feminist Sci Fi usually with an ecological spin and I always drop everything to read her newest. Finlay is great if you are a history buff because the research he poured int to writing about the Revolution included weather on particular days (from diaries)...he's a historian. If you like sprawling epics, Corey is fantastic--however you can't borrow mine...your youngest brother has run off with volumes 1 and 2 in their series. :-) Gaiman is, of course, just the best thing going. Can't wait to see you and tell you a couple book reviewing stories!
